“Tattooing. This is my journey toward my ancestry and how I embrace my ethnicity and my true self. With the help and advice and encouragement of many outstanding, kind, and wonderful artists, I took a leap into a world of artistry, industry, heritage, and spiritualism. In finding myself, I understand how much harder it would have been without supportive family, friends, and colleagues. It’s tough to put yourself out there, but it’s better not to keep it inside. That’s why I make art.”

All tattoos are done by hand without a machine “handpoked”.

About Gossamer’s Tattoos

  • Gossamer is a self-taught, Filipino/African-American, transgender, nonbinary tattoo artist (they/she). Gossamer has been tattooing since June 2018.

  • "Flash" = pre-drawn artwork designed and tattooed by Gossamer. These drawings are usually tattooed only once.

  • Custom tattoos is a tattoo made by Gossamer in their unique style, designed with your idea.

  • All tattoos are done by hand with brand new sterile tattoo needles without a tattoo machine (“handpoke” "stick and poke" "machine-free tattooing").

  • Gossamer’s work has been published by Tattoodo, Inkedmag, and Phaidon Press.

About Gossamer’s Art Style

My style can be described as a mix of American Traditional tattooing motifs & Asian painting/illustrative work. I am heavily influenced by Japanese, Korean, and Chinese folk art & painting, many of which I grew up with as my Filipino mother brought these back to America with her. I'm also inspired by European verdant and mille fleurs tapestries, indigo Tsutsugaki rice paste resist-dye textiles, & Korean Minhwa folk art. Growing up in America I am inspired by Pennsylvania dutch motifs, American folk art, and American coverlets from the 1800s. I also have an affinity for African textiles. I study a variety of cultures from around the world, mostly pertaining to folk art/craft and traditional handmade textile processes.

FAQ

How does booking customs work?

I'm available to make custom tattoos based on your idea! I only tattoo in my unique drawing style. I can reimagine your concept or subject matter in my own style. Please take a look at my past work for ideas - I don't often stray from my typical subject matter, which is usually animals, plants, and objects in full color or black and gray.

When books open for custom work, please clearly describe your idea in the proposal section. Please be concise about the subject matter of the work, the size, location, and color (or lack thereof). Please withhold information that is ambiguous in interpretation. Gossamer will read and respond to all proposals.

If your proposal is accepted, you will go through the booking process indicated in your email. Please note that all custom drawings will be revealed on the day of your tattoo; a small adjustment can be requested, but a full revision may push back your appointment and incur an additional drawing fee. If you are unsure about your custom design, it may be best to book a session for pre-drawn flash.

Lastly, please be decisive about what you’re looking for. Be sure you’re ready for this tattoo. Be clear in your communication, and flexible during the tattooing process.

How does booking flash work?

When I respond to your proposal, the size/location will be discussed. All available designs and size information will be provided in person at your appointment. All flash is repeatable and designs can be rendered in black and gray or in color! Some colors can be adjusted on a case-by-case basis.

Is it possible to get two tattoos in one session?

Yes it is possible, but keep in mind it is not always faster/cheaper to get two pieces instead of one especially if you want tattoos on different places on your body.
